What to Expect Your First Session

Most people are nervous about that first time in the clinic. I remember trying to determine what to wear and what to take off. I was so nervous and self-conscious about being "naked" in a room with a stranger. Imagine the shock when I got there and was checked, realizing it was like going to a doctor's office minus the stress and waiting. Below will detail what you will experience your first visit with us. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call and we will take the time to go over these with you.

1. Check-In:    You will first fill out a Health History and Consent Form. You can print this form off the website and bring it with you to speed up the check-in process. Otherwise you will be asked to complete one when you get here. If you are filing this visit on your health insurance, please also print the Physician's Prescription and bring a completed copy with you. You can also receive this by mail before your visit by calling the office and providing a mailing address.

2. Interview:    We will go over your Health History Form and talk about any conditions you may have that may or may not affect your massage treatment. This is the perfect time to talk about areas of tension, etc. You will then be escorted to the treatment area.

3. Preparation: The therapist will then leave the room and allow you to undress to your comfort level. There are no rules stating that you have to be totally naked. You will determine how much you take off and how much you leave on. This is to ensure that you are relaxed at all times during your session. You will be provided with a place for your clothes, jewelry, and personal items that will stay in the room with you at all times. You will then slip between the sheets on the massage table. The therapist will instruct you as to whether you will start face up or face down. * You will remain draped throughout the whole session. We will only undrape the body part we are working on at that time. The therapist will allow a few minutes for you to get ready and then will knock to re-enter treatment area. If you are having a specific hydrotherapy treatment that is specialized to a certain part of your body (hands, face, feet, etc) it may not be necessary to get completely undressed. Ask your therapist for more information.

4. The Massage or Spa Treatment:  At this time, your massage starts. Remember to let your therapist know about temperature, pressure and any other concerns throughout the massage or treatment.

5. Wrap-Up: Once your massage has ended, the therapist will once again leave the room for you to re-dress. Once finished, you may leave the treatment area and proceed to the designated check-out area. As you are paying, you will be given a bottle of water to help flush out the toxins that get moved around during massage. It is always good to drink plenty of water before and after your massage. You can also pick up a critique sheet and fill it out. It is our goal to serve you better and any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Since these forms can be filled out anonymously, there will be a basket to put them in. You may also mail them in if you would like to take the form with you. We will supply you with an addressed and stamped envelope.

We hope this helps for those who are new to the gifts of massage and hydrotherapy treatments. As always, you can call us at 409-722-9755 with any questions.
